NaNoWriMo 2011 is Here!

Attention all novelists! November is upon us! (No, seriously. It’s all-up-ons. Like hot chicks on Strong Bad.) Come one, come all! Join me in the whirlwind mayhem that is: writing 50,000 words in 30 days – National Novel Writing Month!

I’m excited – can you tell? I’ve gone to great lengths to prepare for this much-anticipated event. I’ve warned my family and friends. I’ve cleared my calendar (for the most part). I’ve cleaned off my writing desk. I’ve done a good amount of pre-writing for my novel. Am I good to go?

Last week, I wasn’t sure. I kept going back to my synopsis and adding, tweaking. Are there errors there? Sure. Plot holes? Most likely. But at this point it’s a bit like looking for needles in a haystack. I’ll have a better shot at getting stuck by one once I dive in. From experience, I know that I do well with a little planning, but sometimes I just need to start writing before things can really happen. Imagine that, huh? 😉

So what’s your story? Are you a writer? Do you have a few novels under your belt, or one that’s just a dream, a “what if?” Have you always wanted to write _____? Only you know what goes in that blank, what’s been tugging at your insides, asking to be let out. Now’s as good a time as ever. Maybe you should throw your cares to the wind and jump in on NaNoWriMo – it starts today! Or maybe you should just do what I need to do: start writing. Write a little, write a lot, but get those ideas out there. Give them some fresh air and space to grow. Whatever it is you’ve been waiting for, put that aside and jump on in.

Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? If you are, tell me in the comments, and post your username if you want to share it. Mine is GreenEyedBecca – feel free to add me as a buddy if you like. If you aren’t doing NaNoWriMo, then what other projects and dreams are begging to see the light of day? What are you ready to get started on?

Let’s do this! Who’s with me?

  • I’m doing NaNoWriMo but I’m not writing a novel. I’m writing 50,000 words on various unfinished stories that I already have going, and possibly writing some outlines/first paragraphs of some ideas in my head. So maybe technically I’m not following the rules, but I’m still hoping to write 50,000 words this month!

    • Awesome. That’s very exciting. I have a few friends who are “cheating” on NaNoWriMo, too. At long as you can still channel it to get some serious writing done, I call that a win.

      Good luck!
