In just a few days I’ll be embarking on an exciting journey: writing 50,000 words in 30 days. It’s an adventure I’m quite familiar with because I’ve done it multiple times, but each time is unique and each time is still a challenge.
This year I’m going to try a bit of a new route and share that journey with you. I’m going to log my progress daily so you can follow along for the ups and downs and watch my successes and pitfalls from a front-row seat.
This year I’m tackling both a short story (goal: 10,000 words) AND a novel (goal: 75,000 words). Yes, you read correctly, that’s actually a goal of 85K in a month rather than the 50K minimum.
I may not finish both next month, but I’m going to try my best and get as far as I possibly can. The short story is a prologue to the novel, so writing that first will really help me develop background details for a few of the characters – this is my way of “cheating” so I don’t have to sit down and write a ton of background stuff for characters that I don’t end up using. This way, I’ll have a publishable story at the end. It’s a win-win.
I may even Periscope about my progress…we’ll see. If you’re on Periscope, look me up at BeccaJCampbell.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Win or lose, I’m sure it’ll be entertaining.
You could even take the plunge with me. JuNoWriMo 2015 promises to be nothing less than amazing.
