Why You Should Write a Book in June
This month for the A to Z challenge, I’m highlighting twenty-six reasons (alphabetically, of course) why you should write a book in June.
JuNoWriMo is our spin off of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) that takes place in June, challenging you to write 50,000 words in thirty days. In the past two years, JuNoWriMo has inspired hundreds of writers to get their books written, including myself. June is the perfect month to stop procrastinating and get that book written.
Why should you write a book in June? Here’s one reason.
V is for Vanity
Okay, I admit that vanity might not be the best reason to participate in JuNoWriMo. But I’ve given you over twenty other really good reasons, and I figure if those didn’t convince you, maybe this one will.
Here’s a secret you might not have considered: winning JuNoWriMo is a huge power trip!
When I won my first month-long writing challenge, it felt amazing! I’m talking about walking-on-air, nothin’-can-get-you-down, invincible amazing. There are few other things in life that made me feel so incredibly empowered. For me, the achievement of writing 50,000 words in a month is up there with:
- Graduating college
- Passing the NCIDQ (a rigorous interior design certification exam)
- Jumping out of an airplane
- Giving birth
- Teaching a child to read
(All of which I have done, by the way.)
If you’ve ever won a NaNoWriMo or a JuNoWriMo, you know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, you are seriously missing out.
If your writing is floundering, this may be just the opportunity you need to super-charge your writing. Think how good you’ll look wearing that winner’s smile. Think how good you’ll feel.
It’s Your Turn
JuNoWriMo 2014 is going to be bigger and better than ever, so don’t miss this opportunity to write that book. I dare you to write 50,000 words in June. If you accept my challenge, know that you won’t be in it alone. You’ll be writing alongside hundreds of other authors who are going for the exact same thing, and that’s the best way to write. It’s gonna be stinkin’ awesome.
Oh, and one more thing. JuNoWriMo is having a giveaway right now: sign up and you just might win a prize!
