Why You Should Write a Book in June
This month for the A to Z challenge, I’m highlighting twenty-six reasons (alphabetically, of course) why you should write a book in June.
JuNoWriMo is our spin off of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) that takes place in June, challenging you to write 50,000 words in thirty days. In the past two years, JuNoWriMo has inspired hundreds of writers to get their books written, including myself. June is the perfect month to stop procrastinating and get that book written.
Why should you write a book in June? Here’s one reason.
C is for Community
JuNoWriMo is more than just an event. It’s a place to connect with other writers and wanna-be writers. It’s a way to find like-minded individuals, whether you share writing styles, writing schedules, genre preferences, or some other common trait. It’s an avenue for support when you’re emotionally drained. It’s a place to find hope and help brainstorming when you’ve hit a wall in the dead-center of your book. It’s a place to make friendships and bond with others who really care. JuNoWriMo is a community.
Let’s face it: writing a book is hard work. Sometimes you need support or advice from others. How can you plug into JuNoWriMo? Here are my suggestions:
- Register on our website to formally join the community.
- Start a conversation on one of our forums.
- Tweet updates with the #JuNoWriMo tag so that others can find you and tweet back.
- As you make friends throughout June, use those relationships to form a writing or critique group, and plan to stay in touch throughout the year.
It’s Your Turn
JuNoWriMo 2014 is going to be bigger and better than ever, so don’t miss this opportunity to write that book. I dare you to write 50,000 words in June. If you accept my challenge, know that you won’t be in it alone. You’ll be writing alongside hundreds of other authors who are going for the exact same thing, and that’s the best way to write. It’s gonna be stinkin’ awesome.
Oh, and one more thing. JuNoWriMo is having a giveaway right now: sign up and you just might win a prize!

I have done a few of these but under the banner of BuNoWriMo – which stands for Burrowers Novel Writing Month. My friend, the Watery Tart aka Tami Hart got me going there. I like the June time better than November though this year will be difficult as I will be leaving Labrador and going back to Nova Scotia for at least the summer so might be a tad busy! We’ll see. I believe in community and think this is a great theme. Keep it up!
Thanks! I hope you can join us in June. Sounds like a busy, but hopefully fun summer. 🙂
I’ve done NaNoWriMo many times, but I might have to start doing JuNoWriMo too 🙂 Such a fantastic way to crank out a draft!!!
Kate,
I typically do both, and I love getting two books written per year minimum. You should totally do JuNoWriMo. 🙂
So many things need my time right now–I consider it an accomplishment to get a blog post written every day! But I love that this is happening. What a great idea. 🙂
Stopping by from the A to Z!
I understand, Jaimie. Life can be crazy busy.
